CHINA Targets former British combat pilots - Analysis
By Iain Fraser - Consultant Geopolitical Editor
Reports from the UK Ministry of Defence suggest that China is currently recruiting former British combat pilots to train their own combat airmen.
Worryingly the announcement also suggests they may have already recruited as many as 30 predominantly fast-jet pilots but also combat helicopter pilots with attractive salaries in the region of £230,000 to train the People's Liberation Army pilots how to defeat western warplanes and helicopters in so-called "air brinkmanship" significantly enhancing China's military knowledge and capability
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence said the training and the recruiting of pilots does not breach any current UK law but officials in the UK and other countries are trying to deter the activity and issued an intelligence alert to warn former military pilots against working for the Chinese military; saying in privately that this is a definite "threat to UK interests" with Defence Analysts describing the situation as a "stunning breach of security."
