IBM´s latest Cost of Data Breach [CDB] Report for 2022 has discovered that the average total cost of a data breach has reached $4.35 Million [€4.2 Million]
Cost of a Data Breach Report 2022 comprises data from 17 countries and regions and 17 industries. The report examines several key metrics at the level of global average, as well as comparative costs between countries and between industries.
Featuring research by Ponemon Institute, the CDB report offers insights from 550 real breaches to help readers understand cyber risk in a changing world. This report has become a leading benchmark tool, offering IT, risk management and security leaders a lens into factors that tend to increase, or help mitigate, the cost of data breaches.
The global average total cost of a data breach increased by $0.11 million to $4.35 million in 2022, the highest it’s been in the history of this report. The increase from $4.24 million in the 2021 report to $4.35 million in the 2022 report represents a 2.6% increase. In the last two years, the average total cost has increased 12.7% from $3.86 million in the 2020 report.
