UKRAINE: BLACK SEA INITIATIVE UPDATE - Grain shipment agreement successful to date- Analysis

Under the Black Sea Initiative 12 grain ships have been “authorised to depart the Ukrainian ports,” according to the acting UN coordinator of the Joint Coordination Centre  Frederick J. Kenney Jr., in a press briefing in New York yesterday [Wednesday, 10 August 2022] with 12 ships departing Ukraine black sea port since the 1 August 2022.

However, a grain ship that was scheduled to depart from Ukraine's Chornomorsk port under the U.N. & Turkish brokered deal has been unable to set sail due to inclement weather status in the area according to news agency, Reuters.

An “unprecedented agreement” on the resumption of Ukrainian grain exports via the Black Sea amid the ongoing war is “a beacon of hope” in a world that desperately needs it, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said at the signing ceremony on 27 July in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The UN plan, which also paves the way for Russian food and fertilizer to reach global markets, will help to stabilise spiraling food prices worldwide and stave off famine, affecting millions.
