According to the Interfax the Moscow based news agency Putin´s Russian nuclear forces have started holding "preparedness" drills in the Ivanovo province, northeast of Moscow citing a statement from the Russian defence ministry.
It is reported that the defence ministry announced that some 1,000 servicemen had begun exercises including "intense manoeuvres using over 100 vehicles, and Yars intercontinental ballistic missile launchers."
Coincidentally the announcement was made as US President Joe Biden announced the US would provide Ukraine with more advanced rocket systems and munitions as part of a $700m package of security assistance.
The US decision to provide the advanced systems is in an attempt to strike a happy medium between providing the besieged Ukraine with the equipment to fight the ferocious Russian artillery barrages and the concern that by providing more advanced weaponry could provoke a reaction from Russia, risking direct conflict between the US, its NATO allies and Moscow.
To that end the US has gone out of its way to stress that they have received a staunch agreement from Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky that they wont be used to strike main target within Russia. Learn More - Register Free to receive our full analysis direct to your inbox or smart device.
