The Institute for Government is hosting an international one-day virtual conference looking at the route to net zero ahead of COP26, the United Nations climate change summit that the UK will host in Glasgow in November. With many countries having adopted targets, the conference will explore the challenges they will face in delivering them identified in the Institute's recent report on net zero.

From Paris to Glasgow: how can the UK make COP26 a success?
Opening keynote speech by Rt Hon Amber Rudd
The former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and Home Secretary, who represented the UK at the 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference, will be in discussion with Bronwen Maddox, Director of the Institute for Government.

How can governments get the public on board?
Speakers:

- Rebecca Willis, Professor in Practice at Lancaster University and expert lead for Climate Assembly UK

What do governments need to do to deliver net zero?

- Michael Liebreich, CEO of Liebreich Associates, founder of New Energy Finance and former member of the Clinton Initiative Energy and Climate Working Group Advisory Board
- Tim Lord, Senior Fellow, Net Zero at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change and former Director for Clean Growth at BEIS

- Joseph Teo, Chief Negotiator for Climate Change for Singapore and former Deputy Permanent Representative for Singapore to the United Nations
- Jacob Werksman, Principal Adviser to the Directorate General for Climate Action for the European Commission
